Monsoon illnesses and how to avoid them

Dengue, malaria, chikungunya, typhoid and leptospirosis all rise between June and September. Empty and scrub water coolers and flower pots weekly, use mosquito repellent at dawn and dusk, drink only boiled or filtered water, and avoid cut fruit sold in the open. Any fever lasting more than two days deserves a platelet count and a doctor visit rather than self-medication.
